Some weeks ago, a large customer from the Hamburg region came to us with a problem. A number of softshell jackets had broken zippers and were therefore unusable. We immediately replaced these zippers but thought it was strange. We have been using these zippers of European origin for many years, putting them in with various customers and never before have there been any problems.
Our client's laundry indicated that this problem was not with them. However, we felt this might be the case. To investigate, we asked our partner/consultant Vaassen textile consultancy engaged. They are the independent consulting center in the field of protective clothing. In their laboratories they did microscopic research on the state of the zippers. The outcome was that the zippers had been too hot during the drying process, causing deformation of the spiral. The photo shows a deformed zipper on the left and a new one on the right. You can clearly see that these parts no longer fit together as a spiral.

So what did we do?
We went to the industrial laundry with the customer and Vaassens' report. As a result, they started an investigation with a number of products. And then they modified their industrial drying process to avoid the problem.
